PETALING JAYA: From calls for stronger unity to being safe on the road, Malaysians are not lacking in hope and well wishes.

“A nation without unity will be living in dissension and disharmony,” said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

He urged Malaysians, irrespective of religious or political backgrounds, to continuously strive together in promoting the spirit of unity.

“This is so that we do not lose sight of what matters most to us right now as a nation – to continue to progress amidst global challenges,” he said.

Citing the floods and Batang Kali landslide, he said Malaysians had displayed unity across all faiths in dealing with tragic moments.

“Many from all walks of life had been seen standing in solidarity regardless of faith to help those in need,” he said.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi urged Malaysians to be careful on the road.

“It is the rainy season and disasters can happen. Do not be hasty, so that all of us can stay safe,” he said in his New Year’s Day message.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the government would strive to provide better connectivity and improved transport solutions to all Malaysians.

“Maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety is paramount for all our public transportation systems,” he said.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said her ministry would do its best for all Malaysians.

“Sometimes, we also help those who are not Malaysians or are displaced. They are humans, too, who require our attention and care,” she said.

Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) president Tan Sri TC Goh said Malaysians of all races should rally behind the government to stimulate the economy and combat spiralling inflation.

“Although democracy and politics are dynamic and full of uncertainties, Malaysians, nonetheless, are hoping that with the general election over, there will be long-lasting political stability, and all quarters, including political parties from both sides of the divide, will rally behind the government to steer the nation out of the Covid-19 pandemic, to resuscitate the economy, and to combat inflation,” he said.
