Ipoh cops arrest two men who allegedly beat up ustaz

IPOH: The police have arrested two men who allegedly assaulted an ustaz here.

When contacted, Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the two men, aged between 30 and 70, were being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

This followed a press statement from Perak Maahad Tahfiz Al Quran Association (Pematap) chairman Datuk Mohd Azlan Suhaimi on the association's Facebook page on Dec 26 saying that Ustaz Halim Din had been beaten up following an intrusion at the Al Khalidiah Maahad tahfiz in Kampung Sri Kinta here.

Mohd Azlan said Halim, who is the principal of the tahfiz, was assaulted after confronting a youth.

The youth was among a group of boys who intruded into the tahfiz's premises to play football on Dec 25.

"Halim went to the house of one of the youths to advise and warn him.

"The ustaz was then scolded, punched, shoved and chased away by one of the youth's relatives," Mohd Azlan said.

Mohd Azlan said a police report was lodged at the Pasir Puteh police station on Dec 25.

He said this was not the first time the group of youths had entered the tahfiz's premises without permission to play football.

"The repeated intrusions and the assault that caused injuries was serious.

"We hope that the police will take stern action so that the incident will not recur," he added.
