KUALA LUMPUR: Proposals by the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, to empower tahfiz education, including through a balance between religious, mainstream and technical and vocational education and training (TVET), will be scrutinised and refined with the relevant parties.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the views and proposals expressed by His Royal Highness provided meaningful guidance in determining the direction of the nation's tahfiz education.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also chairman of the National Tahfiz Council, said the effort was crucial to producing a generation of huffaz (Quran memorisers) who were not only strong in their memorisation and possessed a high level of religious understanding, but also had knowledge and skills in professional fields.
"The Quran serves as the foundation, knowledge broadens their thinking and skills open up their future.
"InsyaAllah, the proposals expressed by His Royal Highness will be scrutinised and refined thoroughly with the relevant parties in the effort to strengthen the nation's tahfiz ecosystem and produce a Quranic generation capable of contributing to the ummah (community) and the country," he said in a Facebook post.
At the same time, Ahmad Zahid expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Sultan Muhammad V's decree in conjunction with His Royal Highness's 57th Birthday Celebration, particularly regarding the proposals on tahfiz education.
Ahmad Zahid also prayed that Sultan Muhammad V would continue to be blessed with good health, wisdom and grace in protecting the people.
Earlier, in his royal address in conjunction with His Royal Highness's 57th Birthday Celebration at Istana Balai Besar, Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V expressed gratitude for the latest developments regarding the National Tahfiz Council by the Federal Government.
His Royal Highness decreed that the planning was in line with the state government's vision to establish two tahfiz schools (maahad tahfiz) in Gua Musang and Kuala Krai, thereby completing the religious and tahfiz education ecosystem in Kelantan.- Bernama
