Daily traffic on PLUS highways to hit two million during year-end break

PETALING JAYA: Daily traffic on PLUS highways is expected to rise to two million vehicles during the upcoming year-end festive season.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad chief operating officer Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said as of Wednesday (Dec 21), daily traffic has already hit 1.8 million vehicles compared to 1.6 million in 2019.

The figure is expected to reach two million a day from Friday (Dec 23) until Jan 2.

PLUS also shared a travel time advisory to help highway users plan their journey.

Travellers from the Klang Valley heading either north or south are advised to enter the highway before 10am, while those heading to the east are advised to do so between noon and 4pm.

Those heading to the Klang Valley from other states are advised to enter the highway before 10am.

“The advisory focuses on traffic distribution and is aimed at reducing congestion on the highway, most notably at major stretches, toll plazas and rest areas during the festive period,” he said.

The advisory may be obtained from the PLUS website at www.plus.com.my or any of its social media platforms.

Zakaria said "stop work" and "no lane closure" orders will be in effect from Friday to Monday (Dec 26) and Dec 30 to Jan 1 to prevent unnecessary congestion.

“However, temporary lane closures may be carried out in case of accidents, emergencies or critical maintenance for safety purposes," he added.

Zakaria advised road users to check Twitter for updates or use the PLUS app to identify congested stretches.

He also advised them to ensure that they are physically and mentally prepared for travelling, especially in view of challenging weather conditions, and to make sure their Touch n Go and e-wallets have enough balance to avoid delays at toll plazas.
