PETALING JAYA: MCA has offered its condolences over the passing of Public Bank founder and chairman emeritus Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president also conveyed his deepest condolences to the family members of the late Teh, who passed away on Monday (Dec 12) morning.
"Teh was a reputable Chinese entrepreneur who began his banking career in 1950 and had 72 years of experience in the banking and finance industry," said Dr Wee, in a Facebook post Monday.
The Ayer Hitam MP described Teh as not only making a name for Public Bank, but also as a kind-hearted employer.
"When the late Tun Tan Siew Sin, a former MCA president and finance minister, was building the country’s financial system, Teh was one of the entrepreneurs invited to open a bank in Malaysia and jointly build up the trading foundation of our nation.
"From grassroots leader to banker, Teh had been exemplary with his outstanding entrepreneurship and dedication. His passing is certainly a great loss to our nation," he said.
"May he rest in peace," Dr Wee added.
Teh passed away peacefully at 10.20am on Monday at the age of 92.
Teh was born in Singapore on March 14, 1930, and he attended his formal primary and secondary education at the Anglo Chinese School in Singapore, a biography note on Public Bank's website said.
He was married to Puan Seri Tay Sock Noy since 1956, and they have four children.
