Melaka Education Dept official dies after car crashes into tree


MELAKA: State police have confirmed that an assistant director from the Melaka Education Department died after his vehicle veered off the Alor Gajah-Melaka-Jasin Highway (AMJ) and crashed into a tree.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit identified the victim as Md Rafiz Shahid from Sungai Rambai in Jasin here.

The 54-year-old victim, who was in charge of the Islamic section at the department, was killed on the spot in the accident at 5pm on Monday (Dec 5).

ACP Christopher Patit said police responded to the report of the crash at 5.20pm on the same day.

He said the victim is believed to have lost control of his vehicle before ramming into the tree along the AMJ, near the Paya Dalam stretch.

“The crash remains under investigation while the weather at the time of the accident was fine,” he said on Tuesday (Dec 6).

The victim, who had five children, aged between 25 and 36, was later laid to rest at the Sebatu Muslim Cemetery here.
