Man arrested over Instagram post containing death threat against the King

PETALING JAYA; A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an Instagram post containing a death threat against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the Instagram post also labelled a race as corrupt while calling for a demonstration to be held protesting the King's power to appoint the next prime minister.

"We detained the suspect at about 10.30pm in Kajang on Tuesday (Nov 22). He has been remanded until Friday (Nov 25)," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Nov 24).

Comm Arjunaidi added that the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

"We advise the people to always abide by the laws. They should also cherish the principles of the Rukunegara to preserve the unity and harmony among people of various races and religions in the country," he said.

Comm Arjunaidi warned that the police will not compromise in taking action against anyone who threatens public order and safety.

"Stern action will be taken against the culprits," he said.
