Covid-19 Watch: 2,516 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 63.8pc


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,516 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Nov 22), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,971,936 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 2,513 of Tuesday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while three imported infections were logged.

Recoveries outpaced new infections, with 2,643 patients recovering on Tuesday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,908,313 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 27,003 active cases currently in the country, with 25,071, or 92.8%, observing home quarantine.

The CovidNow portal reported that 1,932 patients, or 7.15% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 93, with 59 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 63.8%, with ten states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 80.8%, followed by Selangor (80.3%), Putrajaya (71.4%), Kelantan (70.4%), Kuala Lumpur (67.4%), Melaka (66.1%), Terengganu (65.9%), Johor (65.2%), Perak (64.2%) and Negri Sembilan (63.3%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that 11 Covid-19 deaths were reported on Tuesday with seven classified as Brought in Dead (BID).

This brings the death toll to 36,620.
