Chong Wei, Tebrau BN candidate Nicole Wong take part in friendly match

JOHOR BARU: Former world number one shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei spent some time mingling around with fans and even played badminton with them during the Tebrau Cup Tournament here.

Lee and the Barisan Nasional's Tebrau candidate Datuk Nicole Wong Siaw Ting spent about one and a half hours playing badminton and engaging with some 200 people here on Saturday (Nov 12) morning.

In a statement, Wong said that she also had the chance to take part in a friendly match with Lee along with the people of Tebrau.

“Badminton is not only a favourite sport among Malaysians but also one that could unite the people regardless of race.

“This can be seen when we put aside our differences to cheer at ‘mamak’ shops for our national athletes who are taking part in international tournaments,” she said.

She also hopes that such activities would be held more frequently to encourage the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle and exercise.

“I also hope that the spirit of sportsmanship will be applied to politics where we work hard for the same goal, which is to ensure a brighter future for the country,” she said.
