GE15: Azmin says he is no traitor

IPOH: Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has dismissed the "traitor" label that PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had used against him in his speeches while on the GE15 campaign trail.

He said Anwar should be reminded of his actions to oust former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim during the "Kajang Move" back in 2014.

"None of you also discussed the 'Port Dickson Move'," he said when the elected MP resigned to make way for Anwar to contest.

"Isn't that betrayal?" Azmin asked, adding that in 2020, nobody was forced to resign during the "Sheraton Move".

Instead, he said then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned due to his conflict with Anwar and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin became premier because he had majority support.

Azmin said this during a campaign trail to support Tambun incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu in Klebang Jaya.

Azmin added that he also respected former PKR vice-president Tian Chua's decision to contest in Batu as an Independent candidate.

"We are in communication even before the nomination (day). I think, finally, he has to decide and I have to respect his decision to stand as an Independent candidate," he said.

Azmin also said there was no need for candidates from the Perikatan Nasional coalition to declare their assets.

"We don't have to follow the others. They can make asset declarations – but then, even those accused of being corrupt can still be candidates," he said.

Leaders from Pakatan Harapan and Parti Sosialis Malaysia have made announcements to declare their assets.

However, Azmin said it was all just "sandiwara" or just for show.

"If you are committed to fighting corruption, then you set a good example. Candidates should not be allowed to submit nomination papers when they are still struggling in court. That is our stand," he said.
