Seremban cops looking for five motorcyclists who obstructed traffic by playing 'marshal' for convoy

SEREMBAN: Police are looking for five motorcyclists who were captured in a viral video obstructing traffic along a junction in Senawang to allow a convoy of eight cars believed to be supporters of a political party to pass through when the light was red.

The five "traffic marshals" were also seen carrying the flag of a political party with them when they committed the offence at the Taman Desa Dahlia junction.

State police chief Dep Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the incident happened at 6.47pm on Nov 7 and the 33-second clip has since gone viral.

"By obstructing traffic, they had endangered the safety of other road users.

"We are now looking for all the offenders, including the car drivers," he said.

DCP Dzaffir said the so-called "traffic marshalls" who obstructed and controlled traffic can be fined under Section 21 (1) of the Police Act.

The offenders can be punished under Section 94 of the same legislation which carries a fine of not more than RM500 or imprisonment not exceeding six months or both upon conviction.

DCP Dzaffir said the offenders can also be charged under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for not observing the traffic directions and signs.

For this, they can be fined between RM300 and RM2,000.

"We would like to advise all political parties not to violate traffic rules while campaigning and to always strictly adhere to all other existing laws," he added.
