KOTA BARU: Kelantan Bersatu deputy chairman Mohd Zulkifli Zakaria lost his party membership and post automatically after he became an independent candidate in the Bachok parliamentary seat in the 15th general election.
The matter was confirmed by Kelantan Bersatu chairman Datuk Kamaruddin Md Noor, who said Mohd Zulkifli’s decision was his personal plan and has nothing to do with the party leadership.
"I am shocked with Mohd Zulkifli as he had expressed his desire to contest in the constituency (Bachok) but I thought he was joking.
"What can we do, he is already an independent candidate so I had to inform the top leadership accordingly about the development,” he said when contacted by Bernama on Saturday (Nov 5).
The media had earlier reported that Mohd Zulkifli shocked party colleagues when turned up to submit his nomination papers as an independent candidate in Bachok.
Mohd Zulkifli will be contesting against four other candidates, namely Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PAS), Nor Azmiza Mamat (PH), Kamarul Azam Osman (Putra) and Datuk Mohd Zain Yasim (BN). - Bernama
