GE15: Commotion at Titiwangsa after aspiring candidate denied entry

KUALA LUMPUR: A small commotion broke out at the Titiwangsa nomination centre here when a 53-year old man was denied entry to submit his name as a candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Habib Bourguiba Abd Hamid from Kampung Datuk Keramat arrived about two minutes after nomination closed at SMK Aminuddin Baki.

Speaking to media personnel at the gate, the retiree said that he left the house at 8.50am but was unable to arrive on time due to the traffic condition and road closures in the area.

"If I am denied the right to contest, I will be upset as I want to fight for the welfare of the disabled and orphans," said Habib, who was wearing a white shirt on Saturday (Nov 5).

Titiwangsa parliamentary election officer Firdzaus Said had come out to greet Habib and said that all aspiring candidates had ample time from 9am to 10am to submit their nomination.

"This is a matter of law and there will be serious consequences if I breach it. I have made the announcement for the closing of nominations," he said.

Nominations at Titiwangsa closed at 10am sharp, and four people are in the running for the seat.

They are Barisan Nasional's Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Pakatan Harapan's Khalid Abdul Samad, Perikatan Nasional's Dr Rosni Adam and Gerakan Tanah Air's Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
