GE15: Bukit Mertajam's old boys to battle it out

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The challenge is on for incumbent Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong to defend his seat from two other candidates - Barisan Nasional's Tan Yang Pang from MCA and Perikatan Nasional's candidate Steven Koh Tien Yew from PAS.

Sim, 40, has held the seat for two terms since 2013.

Tan, meanwhile, at 39, is the Bukit Mertajam MCA youth chief who also grew up in the same town.

However, the 41-year-old Koh is from Klang in Selangor is a community activist but formerly the Penang Non-Muslim PAS Supporters Congress deputy chairman.

The trio completed the nomination process as election candidates at the Central Seberang Prai District and Land Office in Jalan Betek here on Saturday (Nov 5).

Hundreds of supporters from all three coalitions turned up and crowded both sides of the road leading to the entrance of the centre, waving flags and chanting slogans.
