KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS’ incumbent Tumpat MP Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi is at risk losing his membership following his decision to be fielded in Tumpat under Barisan Nasional, says Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
The PAS deputy president said the party's regulation stated that those who compete under a different banner would have their membership automatically revoked.
He said Che Abdullah is well aware of these consequences.
Tuan Ibrahim said he himself had met with Che Abdullah to give him advice as a friend and as the party leader.
"I have met him, I have told him what I should have told, advised and given the needed reminders.
"I have done that as a friend and as a party leader, and I don't feel sorry for not doing anything.
"Thousands of leaders were not nominated but they remain calm.
"The party can't hold him and in a democratic system, he is free to choose. Good Luck," he said when contacted.
Che Abdullah was among those who were dropped by the party in the upcoming 15th General Election. He was replaced by Kelantan exco member Datuk Mumtaz Md Nawi.
State Perikatan chairman and Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob on Wednesday (Nov 2) said Che Abdullah was dropped as a candidate because he didn't pass the PAS syura council's vetting process.
Disappointed by the news, Che Abdullah was reported to have agreed to contest the seat under the Barisan Nasional banner.
Kelantan Perikatan secretary Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said Che Abdullah was at risk of being dismissed by the party if he decides to contest under a different banner.
"The disciplinary board will further discuss the matter (of Che Abdullah contesting under Barisan).
"In our constitution, if a candidate contests under a different party's ticket, their membership will be stripped off," he said when contacted.
