GE15: Warisan to field candidates in 26 seats in peninsula, says Shafie

AMPANG: Parti Warisan will field candidates in 26 parliamentary seats in the peninsula in the 15th General Election (GE15), says Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

Among them would be MCA ex-president Tan Sri Ong Tee Keat who will be returning to his seat in Pandan.

The former transport minister had also officially joined the party here on Tuesday (Nov 1).

In his speech, Ong said he decided to return to politics after being asked by Shafie due to the political turmoil in the country.

"I don't think there would be any difference (in my electoral preparation).

"Previously, when I contested in Ampang Jaya and then the Pandan seat, I would make sure I am fully prepared for it," he said when asked about facing PKR No. 2 Rafizi Ramli for the seat.

Also announced as the GE15 contestants were former DAP and PKR member Wee Choo Keong who will be contesting the Wangsa Maju seat.

Wee was the Bukit Bintang MP for DAP from 1990 to 2004, and PKR’s Wangsa Maju MP from 2008 to 2013.

Former DAP Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi will be contesting at Bayan Baru, Penang. He was MP from 2008 to 2018.

Shafie added that, however, several seats have yet to be announced and that includes the Arau seat.

He said the party would need to look into more details before placing any candidates in those unannounced seats.

"An announcement on that will be made soon," he said.

In Kuala Lumpur, Naganathan Pillai will face off against other contestants in a multi-cornered fight in Batu, Young Shang Yi in Kepong and Wee in Wangsa Maju.

In Selangor, Lai Wai Chong will contest in Ampang, Abdul Rahman Jaafar in Hulu Langat and Loo Cheng Wee in Klang.

When asked the confidence level of winning the seats, Shafie said the party has a high-level of assurance from the public.

"We are fielding the candidates to win, for sure," he told the media.
