AMPANG: Former MCA president Tan Sri Ong Tee Keat will be joining Parti Warisan, ending his five-year political hiatus.
Ong is expected to receive his official membership at the party’s candidate announcement attended by party president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal here Tuesday (Nov 1).
On Friday (Oct 28), Ong said he was eyeing the Pandan parliamentary seat, where he had served for two terms from 2004 to 2013, to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Ong was with MCA for 28 years and resigned in 2017, wanting to be an "ordinary citizen."
In 2008, he was the transport minister and prior to that, he had served as deputy youth and sports minister and deputy higher education minister.
Meanwhile, Warisan will be announcing its Peninsular Malaysia candidates on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, Shafie indicated that Warisan might be contesting several parliamentary seats in seven states in the peninsula.
The former Sabah chief minister had said that the party might contest seats in Johor, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Selangor and Perak.
