Mat Sabu: Kedah chief’s actions had potential to aggravate situation in facing GE15

KUALA LUMPUR: Disciplinary action was taken against Kedah Amanah chairman Datuk Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi because his actions had the potential to “aggravate” the situation as Pakatan Harapan prepares for the 15th General Election (GE15), says Mohamad Sabu (pic).

Phahrolrazi - who is also the Mengkudu assemblyman - was earlier sacked from the party

“He is among the pioneers in Amanah. He has worked hard and we thank him but we took disciplinary action against him as his action has the potential to aggravate the situation as the coalition prepares to face GE15,” the Parti Amanah Negara chief said at a press conference to announce the candidates list for GE15.

Mohamad said on Sunday (Oct 30) that disciplinary action is common in any party.

“Sometimes those against whom disciplinary action was taken return to their parties and some are even better off in the future,” he said.

“The appeal process can proceed,” he added.

Amanah secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli in a statement on Sunday (Oct 30) said the party's national management committee had made the decision to dismiss Phahrolrazi after he was found to have violated the party's constitution, disobeyed party decisions and carried out acts that were against the interests of the party.

According to reports, there was tension in Amanah Kedah as some members of the leadership in the state were unhappy that DAP was allocated for the Jerai seat.

Reports quoting sources said some Kedah Amanah leaders and members may boycott the upcoming polls as state deputy DAP chief Zulhazmi Shariff will be fielded as a candidate for that seat.

Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad, who was also at the press conference, said having different opinions is acceptable in Amanah.

“However, inciting others to boycott and to not work during polls will affect the interests of the party and Pakatan, and it is akin to giving Kedah away to the opponents,” he said.

“This has crossed limits, and we had to take disciplinary action to ensure that the efforts to have the Kedah Amanah leadership boycott the election is foiled,” he added.
