Wanita MCA offering vocational courses with job placements

KUALA LUMPUR: Four new vocational courses are on offer for Malaysians, with three of them even coming with job placements, as Wanita MCA teams up with a private institution of higher learning on the courses.

Wanita MCA is teaming up with Lincoln University College to provide vocational education opportunities to Malaysians.

Job placements are offered for those who complete their training on three of the four vocational courses.

Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie said the courses are confinement lady training, persons with disability and elderly care training, wedding chaperone (tai kam jie or wedding master of ceremony) training and massage therapy training.

“The courses are open to all who want to upskill and reskill themselves, especially after many people lost their jobs or switched careers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The vocational training will certainly equip participants with useful skills that can help them survive,” she said after launching Wanita MCA’s official website at Wisma MCA here yesterday.

Heng said the cost for the eight-day confinement lady training is RM7,800, persons with disability and elderly care training (eight-day course at RM7,800), wedding chaperone training (four-day course at RM3,800) and massage therapy training (six-month course at RM5,300).

“For those with financial constraints, we will help them apply for the Kojadi education loan.

“They can repay the loans at a 4% interest rate by instalments in three years after completing the course.”

Heng said the courses, except for the wedding chaperone training programme, come with job placements upon completion.

She said such vocational training has helped many Malaysians to enhance their skills and improve their achievements in their careers.

“We have actually started the confinement lady training course five years ago and over 200 people have attended the course so far. Some of them have set up their own confinement centres,” she said.

Lincoln University College’s Professional Development Academy director Dr Edmund Koh said participants will receive a professional certificate upon completion of the courses.

“We have been working closely with industry players throughout the years, where our courses have been focusing on training and job placements.

“We have many past students who managed to transform their lives after acquiring the right skills from our institution. This is good for our society and we want to continue doing this,” he said, adding that the courses would commence in January next year.

Meanwhile, Heng said the brand new Wanita MCA website (https://wmca.com.my/) would have much more to offer, especially with frequent and regular updates of upcoming community programmes and activities for the people nationwide.

She said details on the vocational courses would be provided on the new website and those interested can sign up from there.

She added that the website will have information on Wanita MCA’s plans and social initiatives such as the Legal Advisory and Women’s Aid Centre (Lawa).

She said after Lawa was set up eight years ago, it has received more than 600 cases, most of which were related to family and marital problems, domestic violence, sexual harassment and cheating.

Unlike the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department headed by Datuk Seri Michael Chong, Heng said Lawa usually does not go public or hold press conferences for any cases.

“This is to protect the victims’ privacy, considering their often awkward family situation,” she said.

Heng added that Lawa does not handle cases involving loan sharks and gangsterism, adding that such matters are handled by Chong.
