MBPP enforcing immediate parking payment via mobile ANPR system

GEORGE TOWN: Pay your public parking fee on Penang island the moment you park to avoid getting a compound.

Even if you are still in the car and the engine is running, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) enforcers using the Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system can issue a compound if your vehicle is scanned before payment is made.

You will also need to use the Penang Smart Parking app, as public parking in the state is not payable via ewallet apps.

"If a vehicle is in a parking bay, payment must be made even if the driver is still inside.

"Whether the driver remains in the vehicle for five or 10 minutes, the parking regulations still apply," said MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran on Friday (Aug 7).

The ANPR system in Penang is run by enforcement personnel in cars.

When the ANPR system scans your car's licence plate and detects that no parking fee was paid at that time, it will automatically issue a compound.
