Your Sheraton Move robbed the people of their rights, Patriot tells Hadi

PETALING JAYA: The National Patriots Association (Patriot) has slammed PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang for claiming that he engineered the Sheraton Move, which led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.

Its president Brig-Jen (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji said Hadi's move robbed the citizens of Malaysia of their democratic rights and desecrated the sacrosanct Federal Constitution.

"It is not just shocking but most despicable that political party leaders are proud to have acted in a manner that robbed this nation of democratic rights, peace and harmony and its pursuant progress," he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 23).

On Saturday (Oct 23) night, Abdul Hadi was quoted as saying in his speech at a Penyatuan Ummah (unifying the community) ceramah in Kota Baru that following several political incidents, he initiated efforts to topple the Pakatan Harapan government.

Abdul Hadi said after discussions with Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, he then held talks with Umno.

"As a result of the agreement, Muhyiddin announced his departure from Pakatan.

"That’s when I proposed that he be made the next prime minister,” HarakahDaily quoted Hadi as saying.

Mohamed Arshad said Pakatan came into power to form the government in 2018 after the people gave it their mandate through the polls.

"That act of yours plunged the nation into misery... at a time when global health, economic and geopolitical challenges were mounting.

"We call upon all patriotic citizens, institutions, religious congregations, civil society leaders and principled media to condemn your deceitful, diabolical role in causing the Sheraton Move," added Mohamed Arshad.
