SEREMBAN: Datuk Romli Ishak, the ex-political secretary to former deputy prime minister Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, is one of the candidates being touted to contest the Port Dickson seat for Pakatan Harapan in the Nov 19 polls.
Romli, who is also an investment advisor to Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Inc since March 2020, is another candidate strongly tipped to replace Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will stand in Tambun, Perak.
"Datuk Romli's name has emerged as one of the stronger contenders.
"Let's wait for the official announcement from the party president, as anything can happen between now and then," said one source.
Romli was also special officer (non-executive) to Dr Wan Azizah from 2008-2017 when she was PKR president.
He was also PKR Youth permanent chairman from 1999-2007.
The other candidate being tipped to replace Anwar is Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who is currently serving his third term as Sikamat assemblyman.
In a 2018 by-election, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim won the seat with a whopping 23,560-vote majority in a multi-cornered fight, surpassing the 17,710-vote majority obtained by the previous MP Datuk Danyal Balagopal during GE14.
PKR had also won the seat in the 2008 and 2013 polls.
