KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Joseph Salang is prepared to stand in the Julau parliamentary constituency for GE15, after losing the seat in the previous general election.
However, the four-term former Julau MP said the decision was in the hands of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
"If he gives me the watikah (credential letter), I'm prepared to fight if I'm given the opportunity to do so," he told reporters when met after a book launch here on Thursday (Oct 20).
In the 2018 General Election, Salang – the four-term incumbent Julau MP – lost the seat in a straight fight to Datuk Larry Sng, who contested as an Independent.
PRS is a component party of GPS, along with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
Salang also said PRS had reviewed their candidates for the six parliamentary seats traditionally allocated to them.
He said he would have a discussion with Abang Johari soon before submitting the list.
"All GPS parties have finalised their potential candidates and are waiting for approval from Abang Johari, who will issue the watikah," he said.
On the 14-day campaign period announced by the Election Commission, Salang said it was adequate based on the present situation.
"We hope for clement weather during the campaign," he added.
Nomination day for GE15 has been set for Nov 5, followed by polling on Nov 19.
