Cashier locks self in store room in Kajang robbery

KAJANG: A man only escaped with a few boxes of cigarettes after robbing a convenience store in Taman Semenyih Indah.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said a 21-year-old female cashier was working at the store when the suspect, who was armed with a parang, barged in at about 7.20pm on Monday (Oct 17).

"The suspect, who covered his face with a yellow cloth, tried forcing the victim to open the cash register and hand over all the cash but the victim managed to stall by saying she did not have the key to do so.

"This angered the suspect who shouted at the victim," he said when contacted on Tuesday (Oct 18).

The suspect then shouted at the victim to hand over her mobile phone, causing her to flee into the store room and lock the door, he added.

"The suspect then fled the scene but not before snatching several boxes of cigarettes. The victim was unhurt during the robbery," he said.

ACP Mohd Zaid said the case is classified under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code.

"We urge those with information to contact investigating officer Insp K. Suresh at 017-4333795 or any nearest police station to assist the investigation," he said.
