Budget 2023: Agriculture sector gets RM1.8bil in subsidies and incentives

PETALING JAYA: The government has announced a total allocation of RM1.8bil in subsidies and incentives for paddy farmers, fishermen and small farmers.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the allocation of RM256mil for rainy season assistance for small rubber farmers will benefit 320,000 farmers.

“Each small rubber farmer gets RM200 a month for four months. This means each of them gets RM800 instead of RM600 previously.

“RM200 a month will be given to 240,000 paddy farmers for three months (one season). This is under an aid reintroduced in 2023, with a total allocation of RM228mil.

He also announced an RM10mil allocation for the AgroPenjara programme involving convicts to go into agricultural activities. This involves 70 hectares of land in Malaysian prisons.
