Actor fined RM30,000 for uploading lewd content

PETALING JAYA: Actor Zul Ariffin (pic) has been fined RM30,000 after he pleaded guilty to uploading lewd content on social media in March.

He pleaded guilty after the charges were read to him in front of Judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar at the Sessions Court in Sepang, Selangor, yesterday.

It was reported that Noorhisham also imposed a nine-month jail sentence in default of the fine.

The actor paid the fine.

According to Star Media Group’s Bahasa Malaysia portal mStar, Zul was represented by two lawyers, Saresh Mahendran and Sivaram Prasad.

Zul, 36, arrived at the court at 8.15am wearing a grey suit.

Accompanying the Talbis Iblis actor was his close friend and producer of the film, Gayatri Su-Lin Pillai, as well as his manager.

The actor had earlier uploaded the video on his Instagram, attracting various reactions from users, with some saying it was not suitable for viewing because of its lewd content.

Zul was charged under Section 233(1)(A) of the Communication and Multimedia Act of 1998.
