KJ: Flood season the main focus of both Health and Defence Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: We are preparing for the flood season while others might be talking about holding an election, says Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Speaking to the media after a work visit to Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan in Wangsa Maju, he said that the Health Ministry and Defence Ministry were working hard to ensure assets and other essentials are in place to combat floods and other disasters.

He added that Tuesday’s (Sept 27) visit was the result of orders by the Prime Minister to all relevant ministries to prepare themselves to face the floods.

"We have been briefed on the preparation levels by the Health and Defence ministries to help the National Security Council in the event of floods that would normally occur at the end of the year.

"It is quite clear that other people are talking about elections but we are getting ready to face the floods to ensure the safety of the people," he said.

He added that the partnership between both ministries during the height of the pandemic was much appreciated.

"After this, seeing that the partnership was very effective, a new framework would be constructed between the two ministries. It will look at how all assets and resources can be more optimised," he said.

As examples, he added that perhaps human resources can be shared further at hospitals.
