KL cops arrest maid for allegedly stealing RM50,000 from employer

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a foreign woman for allegedly stealing RM50,000 cash from her employer.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the incident occurred at a house at Pandan Prima on Sept 15.

"The complainant, a 37-year-old house wife, claimed she went to the storeroom to take the cash at around 4pm on that day when she realised it was missing.

"She claimed that her husband had withdrawn the cash from his company account on Sept 14 in order to deposit it into their children's Amanah Saham Berhad accounts but could not do so on that day because he was busy," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 22).

He said police investigations led to the arrest of a 58-year-old foreign woman who worked as their maid for over seven years.

"The suspect was arrested at around 9pm on Wednesday (Sept 21) when she came to the Ampang Jaya police headquarters.

"Our investigations revealed the suspect did not run away after the incident and the money has yet to be recovered," he said, adding that the suspect had been remanded for four days.

He said the suspect also did not have any prior record and did not have a valid work permit.

"Investigations are ongoing to recover the missing cash.

"We have classified the case as stealing cash from an employer under Section 381 of the Penal Code," he said.
