KLANG: The high tide phenomenon, which causes the sea level to rise, has struck several low-lying areas here, but no flash floods were reported.
A check showed the Port Klang South Port Passenger Terminal was flooded with seawater at about 6.45am yesterday.
As this has been a usual occurrence during the high tide phenomenon, it did not hamper the ferry service to and from Pulau Ketam, which starts at 8.25am and 7.25am, respectively.
The water level at the ferry terminal car park subsided just before ferry services were about to start.
Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim, who is also the Selangor Speaker, said no flash floods were reported along Selangor’s coastal areas.
“Some low-lying places saw water levels rise, but it only lasted a while because there were no heavy rains or strong winds,” he said.
However, he called on all parties to be on alert as the high tide forecast for today is 5.5m.
“Those living in Klang, Kuala Selangor and nearby areas should be wary,” he said.
Those living in Klang can contact the Klang district office disaster operation room at 03-3371 6700 or WhatsApp 010-869 1067 (24 hours), while those from Kuala Selangor can reach out to 03-3289 7632 or WhatsApp 011-7539 2642.
Pulau Ketam MPKK chairman and village head Chua Kim Lin said the fishing village did not experience floods yesterday.
“Usually, when the high tide reaches 5.7m or above, together with strong winds and rain, then the roads in the village will be flooded,” he said.
The department’s assistant director (operations), Hafisham Mohd Noor, said they have teams monitoring Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor and Klang for possible flash floods.
At around 6.42am yesterday, the high tides were reported by the Klang monitoring team at Jalan Kunci Air, Pengkalan Nelayan in Jalan Genting, Jeti Sayang D’sayang, and Pengkalan Sungai Keramat.
