Dr Wee: Pilot succumbed to injuries despite early indications he was alive

PETALING JAYA: The 58-year-old pilot who was involved in the helicopter crash near Bidoh passed away due to the severity of his injuries, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

"I have now received a report that the victim who was rescued from the helicopter crash site in Kg Kenangan, Bidor, has sadly passed away due to the severity of his injuries," the Transport Minister said in a Facebook post Monday (Sept 12).

Earlier, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri revealed that the victim had been identified as Tsz Kin Richard Chan from Hong Kong.

According to Dr Wee, early indications had shown that the victim was still alive at the time when he was found at the crash site at 8:18am.

"However, we were informed that the victim had reportedly lost consciousness during the rescue and was attended to by rescuers," he said.

He added that the authorities, including the Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM) and the search and rescue (SAR) team, were now waiting for confirmation on the cause of death.

In a statement Monday, the CAAM said that an investigation into the incident would be carried out by the Transport Ministry's Air Accident Investigation Bureau in accordance with Part XXVI of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.

CAAM also expressed its condolences to the family of the victim and it appreciation to the search and rescue team members from all agencies, including civilian volunteers.

On Sunday (Sept 11), the helicopter, with a single pilot on board, was said to have lost contact with KLATCC at 12.16pm.

The aircraft took off from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 11.37am for a private flight and was scheduled to land at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here at 12.37pm.

The helicopter model is a Eurocopter EC120B, registration marking N409HH operated by Heli Outpost Sdn Bhd.
