PETALING JAYA: Grief is the price we pay for love, Queen Elizabeth II once said. Upon her death, it became apparent how truly loved she was.
Former women, family and development minister Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who remembered the queen’s quote, said the monarch had touched the hearts of many across the world.
“To God we belong and to God we return. Queen Elizabeth II held the hearts of the world like no other. No other. May her soul rest in peace,” said Shahrizat on Instagram.
Many prominent Malaysians and leaders were also saddened by the Queen’s death.
Selangor Princess Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, in a heartfelt Instagram post, talked about her experience of living in a boarding school in England from the age of 10 until her adulthood.
“Every morning in school, we would sing God Save The Queen in assembly. The Queen was so iconic and a part of all of our childhood memories. Now, the anthem will be changed to God Save The King – His Majesty King Charles III,” said Tengku Zatashah, who also shared many pictures of Queen Elizabeth on social media.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri also expressed her sadness.
“Her Majesty was truly an inspiration to so many during her incredible 70-year reign. She was a rare gem and a wonderful Queen and has left a great legacy behind. The world shall surely miss her,” Nancy said in her Instagram posting.
Former de facto law minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the Queen’s 70-year reign was filled with dignity, warmth, respect and a sense of humour.
“Her commitment to service was remarkable and won the hearts of many, far and wide,” Azalina wrote yesterday.
