Teen girl feared drowned while swimming at Johor beach

KOTA TINGGI: A teenage girl is missing and feared drowned while swimming at Tanjung Balau beach in Bandar Penawar on Friday (Sept 9).

Bandar Penawar fire station chief Masri Ibrahim said they received an emergency call on the incident at 8.39am.

“The missing girl was among six teenagers who went for a swim at the beach.

“Three victims, all girls aged 13, were rescued by beachgoers,” he said in a statement.

Masri said firemen managed to rescue two victims – a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl who were unconscious.

“The two victims received initial respiratory treatment from our team before being sent to Penawar Health Clinic,’’ he said.

Masri said the three girls rescued by beachgoers were also sent to the clinic by an ambulance from the Health Ministry.

He said the search and rescue operation (SAR) involving 10 firemen from Bandar Penawar fire station led by senior officer Mohd Hazmi Zulkafli, to locate the missing victim was still on-going.

“The operation covers 80m from the site where the victim was last seen,’’ he said, adding that all victims were from Kota Tinggi.
