Police: Leaked judgment a reference, not final copy

KUALA LUMPUR: The purported leaked judgment on the verdict of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s corruption case involving the solar hybrid project was only a reference for the judge and not a final copy, say the police.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said that investigations had commenced after the Federal Court chief registrar’s office lodged a police report.

“The document is a research document regarding a case that is still under trial and it is the view of the research unit as a reference for the judge.

“According to the complainant, the document will be amended based on the research and is not the decision of the court,” he said in a statement.

This follows a report by Raja Petra Kamarudin that was published on Aug 26 titled “Rosmah Mansor will be pronounced guilty on 1st September 2022”.

“This media report claimed that the decision by the court to find Rosmah Mansor guilty has already been made,” said ACP Beh.

“However, the complainant said that the document was not the judgment.”

The matter was being investigated, including under the Official Secrets Act 1972, he added.

“Kuala Lumpur police advises all to not simply share articles that could create civil unrest and uneasiness among the public,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Federal Court Chief Registrar’s Office in a statement yesterday, said: “This action was a deliberate act aimed at undermining the integrity of court operations and administration of justice. In this connection, a police report has been lodged.”

It stressed that the judiciary would not be affected by illegal acts which were perpetrated with the aim of undermining the integrity of the country’s judicial system, Bernama reported quoting the statement.

Rosmah was charged with three counts of corruption involving a RM1.25bil hybrid solar project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.

She is accused of soliciting RM187.5mil through her former aide Rizal Mansor, as an inducement to help a company secure the solar project and of receiving bribes amounting to RM5mil on Dec 20, 2016.

High Court judge Zaini Mazlan is scheduled to deliver his decision on Rosmah’s corruption trial on Sept 1.
