PETALING JAYA: Congratulations to Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik for emerging as the first Malaysian badminton players to win at the Badminton World Championships, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In a Facebook post Sunday (Aug 28), the Prime Minister said a historic moment had been etched in the annals of the country's badminton story.

"This is a very meaningful gift for the country in conjunction with National Day 2022," he said in his post.

Earlier Sunday, Aaron and Wooi Yik created history by becoming Malaysia's first World Champions in Tokyo.

The world No.6 pair secured a superb 21-19, 21-14 over Indonesia's three-time world champions Mohd Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
