Umno president's special briefing needed to calm members down, says Saarani

KUALA KANGSAR: The special presidential briefing by Umno's Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Putra World Trade Centre on Saturday is needed to calm members down, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Umno chairman said he believed that Ahmad Zahid needed to explain to party members given what happened to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to keep them united.

"More importantly, the meet will deter any prejudice so as not to cause any split between members," he said after attending a tree-planting programme at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Sultan Azlan Shah here on Friday (Aug 26).

When asked whether the briefing indicates there could be an early general election, the Perak Mentri Besar said it did not matter when elections were held.

"What matters is that it is held when the time is right.

"I am confident the Prime Minister has the wisdom to know when it is the right time to seek consent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament," he said.
