Federal Court decision offers ray of hope for graft-free nation, says Abim

PETALING JAYA: The Federal Court's decision to uphold the conviction of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is historic, says the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim).

It said the development validates the democratic wishes of the people as expressed during GE14, which sought a national administration that functioned in a fair and transparent manner.

"The previous failures for fair and transparent investigations against the offenders had demanded changes via the ballot box," said Abim president Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz.

"Therefore, Abim urges mandatory institutional reforms to be initiated, starting with changes in the Attorney General's Chambers and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), to completely free them from interference by the executive branch.

"To mark the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, Abim wishes for a ray of hope for the country, especially in ensuring that we are completely free from corruption," added Muhammad Faisal.
