No offence committed by FB user Zamani Ibrahim, say cops

KUALA LUMPUR: No investigation paper was opened on the comments by Facebook user Zamani Ibrahim as it was his own personal view, say police.

In a statement, Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Zam Halim Jamaluddin said that the police had received a complaint regarding the post on Aug 18.

“The police received a complaint regarding a statement against Datuk Seri Najib Razak by the Facebook user, Zamani Ibrahim.

“The statement was made on May 11, 2018 and was his own personal political view. There had been no offence committed. As such, the police have not opened an investigation paper over the complaint,” he said.

He added that the old post has been re-shared by unscrupulous parties to incite reactions.

Earlier, Najib applied for Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat to be recused from hearing over the final appeal on the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

In the originating motion, viewed by The Star, Najib is seeking for the CJ to recuse herself from hearing or deciding in the appeal and for a new panel to preside over the appeal.

In the supporting affidavit, Najib said there was a Facebook post by an individual named "Zamani Ibrahim" on May 11, 2018.

The post spoke about Najib being "dethroned" after GE14.

"I verily believe the above-named individual Zamani Ibrahim is the husband to the honourable Chief Justice who is the chairperson of the judicial panel that is hearing my final appeal of the SRC case in the Federal Court," he had stated in the affidavit.

Tengku Maimun dismissed the application, saying there was no reason to adjourn the recusal matter.
