Kuala Perlis folk surprised over presence of ‘spaceship’

PERLIS: Fishermen and residents in Kuala Perlis were in awe when a luxury yacht that looked like a “spaceship” appeared at Sungai Perlis estuary.

According to Perlis Fishermen Association board member Jasni Hashim, the presence of the yacht on Sunday (Aug 14) surprised the residents and fishermen.

It is understood that the yacht, believed to be worth around US$45mil (RM200mil), came from abroad.

Jasni said while the river estuary was a passage for various types of boats and ships, it was the first time they saw such a luxury yacht.

He added that the presence of the Adastra-type luxury yacht at about noon did not interfere with the activities of the fishermen along the estuary.

“There were no complaints,” he told Sinar Harian.

"The yacht is heading to the Perlis Marine Engineering (PME) Sdn Bhd wharf for some repairs," he said.

Jasni said it was understood that the yacht had received permission from the Malaysian Marine Department to sail through the river before anchoring at PME in Kampung Tengah.
