KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government presented RM200,000 to a parish church in Penampang on Thursday (Aug 11), as part of an effort to help improve facilities at non-Muslim religious houses in this state.

The contribution to the St Michael Church will be used to upgrade the cemetery lot as well as other structures identified by the church committee.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir on behalf of the Chief Minister, handed over a mock cheque to St Michael Church’s financial and assets chairman Ernest Mojikon during a ceremony at the parish office.

The financial aid reflected the state government’s concern and awareness on the need to improve facilities at non-Muslim places of worship like churches.

This year, RM47mil has been allocated by the Sabah government for non-Muslim religious bodies, vernacular schools and private schools state-wide, to ensure the welfare of all religions and races in this state are taken care of.
