KUALA LUMPUR: Two senators have taken their oath of office before Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim here on Monday (Aug 8).

They are Johor MCA deputy liaison chairman Datuk Lim Pay Hen and Padawan Municipal Council deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim.

Lim has been reappointed as senator by the Johor state assembly for another term from June 26 this year to June 25, 2025.

Ahmad is a new appointment by the Sarawak state assembly effective July 22 this year to July 21, 2025.

They were sworn in as Senators before the question and answer session in the Dewan Negara.

Rais, in his speech, reminded them to play their role and responsibilities as best they can, including in the effort to transform Parliament.

"The Dewan Negara is going through a transformation phase that requires active participation of the senators so that the role of this House in fighting for the people is effective," he said. – Bernama
