Tobacco Bill now covers those born after 2007, says KJ

PETALING JAYA: The proposed Tobacco and Smoking Control Bill’s age limit for the ban on the sale of tobacco and vape products will be adjusted to those born after 2007 from the initially suggested limit of people born after 2005.

In a tweet on Monday (July 25), Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this change was made after careful consideration of the various views and arguments put forth on the Bill during stakeholder engagement sessions earlier this year.

“This is to provide the government additional time to develop a more comprehensive implementation plan and enforcement measures along with better community education,” he said.

Khairy stressed the important role that every person can play in achieving a smoke-free future for future generations.
