Sabah’s boars return to the wild as ASF epidemic subsides

KOTA KINABALU: Bearded pigs are beginning to reappear in the wilds of Sabah’s Tabin Wildlife Reserve after fears that the animals might have been wiped out by the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus outbreak in the state.Conservationists at the wildlife reserve in Lahad Datu have been seeing healthy bearded pigs since early this year.

Bring Back our Rare Animals (Bora) project manager Dr Zainal Zahari Zainuddin said camera traps captured images of healthy bearded pigs (scientific name Sus barbatus) in the Tabin wildlife area.
