JOHOR BARU: The man who allegedly murdered his wife and infant son in Kampung Bakar Baru has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court here.

Ship cleaner Mohamad Amir Nazri Mohd Adam, 24, was accused of murdering Hajar Nursyahirin Rosman, 26, at Jalan Dewasa, Kampung Bakar Batu at around 11.30am on July 4.

He was separately charged with murdering his two-month-old son Hans Mohamad Thaqeef Mohamad Amir Nazri at the same location and time.

The accused, in a grey t-shirt and handcuffs, nodded and said he understood when the charges were read to him before Magistrate Mohd Zulhilmi Ibrahim on Monday (July 18).

He was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code in both cases, which carries a mandatory death sentence if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Qaiyyum Ramlan, Muhammad Shafiq Mohd Ghazali and Danial Munir asked for the accused to be sent to Hospital Permai for a mental evaluation.

Mohd Zulhilmi granted the request and set Aug 18 for mention and for the submission of the complete forensics report, DNA report and psychiatric report.
