Abang Johari pays courtesy call to Singapore PM


KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg paid a courtesy call on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at his office in the Istana at Orchard Road.

The visit on Thursday (July 7) afternoon was part of the Premier's five-day itinerary in Singapore to gain insights into the management of its sovereign wealth fund and to promote further economic cooperation between the island republic and Sarawak.

In a statement issued from Singapore, the Sarawak Premier's Office said the two leaders discussed subjects of mutual interest to Sarawak and Singapore as well as current issues affecting the region and the world during the half-hour call.

Accompanying Abang Johari at the courtesy call were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, Datum Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Also present was the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar.

Earlier on Thursday, Abang Johari and his delegation paid a similar call on Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong.

This was followed by a call on Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean.

The delegation later visited Temasek Holdings Private Ltd, where they were briefed on the Singapore government's domestic investment arm.
