KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin was awarded an honorary doctorate for Political Science by the newly-upgraded Jesselton University College (JUC) here.He was honoured for his services and contributions in politics, education, welfare and society.
He received the award over the weekend from Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad at JUC’s first convocation, which saw the passing-out ceremony of 70 graduates in various fields.
Bung Moktar said he was very honoured by the recognition and would always be open to working with JUC, especially in the field of education development in Sabah.
“This is the first time I have received an award like this and I will see how I can apply my knowledge and experience to help the university in the future,” said the Sabah Umno chief, who holds a Bachelor of Arts (Policy Studies and Analysis) degree from Unversiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
Apart from Bung Moktar, Senator Datuk Arman Azha Abu Hanifah was also honoured with a similar degree at the event.
JUC, formerly known as Jesselton College, was set up in 1988 before it was granted the University College status last year.
Its president Prof Dr Datuk Chin Yuk Fong said the institution was the first local college to be upgraded in Sabah.
“The people of Sabah can now enjoy greater opportunities to pursue higher education as a result of this,” he added.
