Isham Jalil expected to be appointed to Umno supreme council, say sources

PETALING JAYA: Former Selangor Barisan Nasional information chief Isham Jalil is (pic) expected to be appointed into the Umno Supreme Council, according to sources.

"Yes," said a source briefly.

Isham's name arose after Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was removed from the Umno supreme council.

Earlier on Friday (June 24), Isham said he would attend the Umno supreme council meeting later at night on Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan's invitation.

"I was informed by the Umno secretary-general that I was invited to attend the Umno supreme council meeting at WTC KL tonight.

"Thank you for inviting me to attend the meeting for the party's highest body tonight. I will attend.

"As a grassroots Umno member, I will assist the party in my best capacity for the people and the country," said Isham in a Facebook post on Friday afternoon.

Isham was previously removed as the Selangor Barisan information chief following a statement he made about PAS.

His sudden removal as Selangor Barisan information chief raised many questions among political observers.

Top sources in Umno were shocked by Isham's removal, and said it could be due to his constant criticism of PAS and cooperation with the Islamist party.

Earlier on Friday, Ahmad Maslan, in a letter to Tajuddin dated June 21, said the Pasir Salak MP's services as Umno supreme council member had been terminated.

In July last year, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also removed Tajuddin as the Umno elections director and replaced him with deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
