Leaking gas pipe at Oakland Industrial Park causes huge fire, damaging cars

Firefighters spent more than two-and-a-half hours to put out the fire which was caused due to an undergound leaking gas pipe.

SEREMBAN: A leaking underground gas pipe near a factory at the Oakland Industrial Park here caused a massive fire and partially damaged several cars belonging to employees and nearby premises.

However, no injuries were reported in the incident which happened just before midnight.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel managed to put out the fire around 2.30am on Friday (June 17), about two-and-a-half hours after they received an emergency call.

The incident also caused traffic along the North South Expressway to slow down, as startled motorists watched the bright orange flames lit the sky.

The Seremban 2 Fire and Rescue Department said they had to seek the assistance of Gas Malaysia to shut the gas valve in order to put out the fire.

"When we arrived at the scene, we saw a 30x10 sq ft area near the factory’s gas service station ablaze due to the gas leak.

"We deployed two 700 feet hoses to bring the fire under control and to prevent it from spreading," it said in a post.

Firefighters from the Rembau and Teluk Kemang stations had also assisted in the operation.
