King, Queen attend Yasin recital in conjunction with birthday celebration


KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah attended a Yasin recital and ‘doa selamat’ in conjunction with His Majesty's official birthday celebration on June 6.

Also present at the ceremony on Thursday (June 2) held at the Federal Territory Mosque was the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Their Majesties were greeted upon arrival at 6.30pm by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Datuk Idris Ahmad.

Also in attendance were several Cabinet ministers, including Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, as well as Federal Territories mufti Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah.

The ceremony began with the Yasin recital and ‘doa selamat’ led by the Grand Imam of the Federal Territory Mosque Muhyidin Aziz @ Saari, before the Royal Couple, along with 2,000 other congregants, performed the Maghrib prayer.

Their Majesties later exchanged greetings and mingled with the congregants before leaving the event at 7.54pm.

The ceremony is part of events lined up in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of Sultan Abdullah, who was installed as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on July 30, 2019.

His Majesty is also scheduled to attend a special sermon and perform Friday prayers at the mosque tomorrow. - Bernama
