Grandaunt and mum held over abuse of two children

GEORGE TOWN: Two woman have been arrested in Air Itam after pictures of two abused children went viral. George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the two women, aged 28 and 52, were the mother and grandaunt of the kids.

“A police report was lodged by a local man at the Air Itam police station at 8am in relation to a Facebook post with pictures of the two children who had bruises on their faces. This led to a raid at the flat at 11.15am,” he said yesterday.

He said the police rescued a five-year-old girl and her three-year-old brother. Checks showed the bruises sustained were due to abuse.

Soffian said both the victims were referred to the Penang Hospital for further examination.

He also urged those with information to contact the North East district police headquarters at 04-2181822. — Bernama
