Siblings arrested over news presenter's robbery to be charged tomorrow (May 13)

PETALING JAYA: The two siblings who were arrested in connection with the robbery of a television news presenter in Damansara Perdana will be charged on Friday (May 13).

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the 31-year-old man and his 24-year-old sister would face charges at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court.

"The two will be taken to the Court Complex at around 8.30am where they are expected to face charges of robbery and causing injury under Section 394 of the Penal Code," he said when contacted on Thursday (May 12).

It was reported that the siblings were arrested to assist in the investigation of the robbery on Thursday (May 5).

The suspects were detained at about 4.30pm on Friday (May 6) in Puncak Alam.

Checks revealed that the male suspect had six past records involving drug-related cases and 15 criminal records.

He was also a wanted person, while the female suspect did not have any criminal record.

Several case items believed to be from the robbery were seized, including a car believed to have been used by the suspect in committing the crime.

In the 3.40pm incident, the victim saw his car being broken into by one of the suspects when it was parked by the roadside near Damansara Perdana.

The suspect allegedly smashed the car’s front passenger side window to steal a bag belonging to the complainant containing a laptop as well as personal belongings before fleeing the scene after realising the victims presence.

He then went after the suspect, following which a scuffle broke out and the complainant’s bag fell from the suspect’s car.

A 30-second video clip of the chase that was recorded by a TikTok user who happened to be at the scene went viral on social media.
